Mea Duke is a Rhode Island based interdisciplinary artist who specializes in representational painting and printmaking. Her work levies the stratum between “painting an object” and “a painting as an object” within the relationship between iconic design language, function, materiality, memory, and time. Duke seeks to render the represented objects or events so they may be more accessible and depersonalized to the viewer, allowing their own associative memories to enter the reading of the work as if they were formative and enduring icons.
